Most of you must be familiar with the word “Genre”! A Genre is a style or category of art or other forms of entertainment like music & literature. It is a dynamic tool which helps the audience to make sense out of the complex art form especially movies and music in terms of what to expect and observe.
Most of the times, the word “Genre” is associated with movies. It is difficult to sort and section the humongous collection of movies that are being made every minute without the help of genres. A Genre is like an important essence for a movie. It is a category on which the movie revolves around and keeps the viewer engrossed in its complex but interesting intricacies.
Movie genres are of various kinds, such as Comedy, Romantic, Thriller, Horror, Action, Adventure, Drama, Documentaries, fictions and Crime. There are sub-genres also, which comes under each genre, like Science-fiction comes under fiction, Melodrama falls under Drama, Martial Arts movies fall under Action. Therefore, each genre tends to have some or the other sub-genres.

It is a 2008 film, directed in the English language, whose whole story revolved around the kidnapping of two girls by Albanian Sex Traffickers who were later saved by the father of one of them as he was a retired CIA field agent. After gaining popularity, this film came up with two sequels – Taken 2 and Taken 3, released in 2012 and 2014, respectively.
It is a 1997 American mystery thriller film whose story revolved around a game. A game, which changed a banker’s journey by creating uncertainty in his real life. The game was used to embrace the banker’s life, by removing the haunted thoughts of his father committing suicide.
This American movie was released in 2010 whose suspense was totally based on a piece of paper, stating, the law of 4; who is 67?
This note was found in the patient Rachel’s room, who was a criminally insane identity and was imprisoned for drowning her three children. One fine day, she got disappeared from the hospital and her investigation was taken up by Leonardo DiCaprio stars as US Marshals, Edward Teddy Daniels.
A neo-noir crime thriller film of 1995, whose name depicts the importance of number seven in the movie. And this seven was used in the movie to commit seven deadly sins by a serial killer as a motive in his murders, who was tracked down by a soon to retire detective and a young, dynamic Brad Pitt.
Again an American neo-noir psychological thriller film, released in 2000. This movie is based on a person who suffers from short-term memory loss of approximately every five minutes. He is also unable to form new memories.
He is in search of a person who attacked him and killed his wife, with the help of Polaroid camera and tattoos as the only means of remembering things.
The name itself justifies the movie. This movie is an American 2014 thriller film where a person records violent events late at night in the city of Los Angeles and further, sells the footage to a local television news station. This movie is based on the relationship between unethical journalism and consumer demand.
Vertigo was released way back in 1958. It is an American psychological thriller film based on a novel. The meaning of Vertigo is a false sense of rotational movement. The film stars James Stewart as former police detective John “Scottie” Ferguson. Scottie is forced into early retirement because an incident in the line of duty has caused him to develop acrophobia (an extreme fear of heights) and vertigo.
These were only a handful of some amazing thrillers of all times. A number of such movies exist catering to the sub genres like psychological thrillers, crime thrillers etc.
Such movies have also been the center of popular art movements in the last century. Expansion of the minimalist themes, movie themed clothing, rising presence of cinema theme based cool t shirts online, more number of collectors buying and curating movie posters online and offline is a testament to the popularity of the thrillers.
